About Us

Chemung Valley Montessori School educates and embraces the whole child. Our focused learning encourages independent thinking. Using proven Montessori methods, our mission is to cultivate independent, curious lifetime learners as we inspire academic excellence and build community. CVMS is a non-profit, independent school chartered by the NYS Board of Regents and affiliated with American Montessori Society.

At CVMS, students are grouped in multi-age classrooms, enabling them to learn from one another as well as their Montessori-trained teachers. By keeping students with the same teachers for three years, we are able to know them well, track their growth, and guide them in their cognitive, social, and emotional growth. We are particularly proud of our exceptionally skilled, caring, and dedicated faculty.

The renowned Montessori philosophy, methodology, and materials are at the core of how we accomplish this. We have deliberately small, multi-age classes, Montessori-trained and certified teachers, and hands-on materials that have proven extremely successful in inspiring children’s curiosity and self-motivation, and in fostering a depth of understanding that transcends “teaching for the test.”
