Sep 9    5K Run/Walk in beautiful Painted Post - A Race to Benefit Bampa's House -
The committee to establish a comfort care home called Bampa’s House in the Corning-Painted Post area has announced that they will be sponsoring a 5K run/walk on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Craig Park in Painted Post, NY. The purpose of the race is to raise money for Bampa’s House and celebrate the life of Jim Dugan, the namesake of Bampa’s House.  
Participants are encouraged to run or walk the 3.1 mile course that includes the beautiful Painted Post Trail and winds through the streets of Painted Post where Jim lived. There will also be a Kid’s Fun Run prior to the 5K race where children under 10 can participate.

    New York is the second largest apple-producing region in the United States. The cideries in this state are doing amazing things with apples, drawing international attention and acclaim in recent years. Pair this with the Museum's talented glass makers, and you have planted the seeds for a fantastic collaboration to create the perfect glass for enjoying hard cider.
    Join us for a special evening as we unveil the ciders and their custom-made glasses. Learn about the history of apples and cider in the region from Maria Kennedy of The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes, and hear local cider-makers and the Museum's glass artists talk about their collaboration in a panel discussion.

Wings & Wheels in Hammondsport is an annual event sponsored by and for the benefit of The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum. 
Enjoy two days of seaplanes, cars, food, vendors, and more! The best part? It is free to attend for the whole family.

All are encouraged to stay and enjoy the wonderful banquet dinner at the Curtiss Museum. You will sit and mingle among the exhibits. There will be complimentary wine and beer available at 6:00 p.m. and the fabulous four course dinner at 7:00 p.m. Announcements, awards and a silent auction will be at 8:00 p.m. There will be numerous historic and interesting items up for auction with all proceeds going directly to the Curtiss Museum. The cost to attend is $50.00 per person and it is open to the public. Remember, arriving Seaplane Pilots and one co-pilot are invited to attend the banquet at no cost.

Sep 19    The ARTS Council: A Special Poets in Play Event
The ARTS Council is opening its 2017-2018 Poets in Play Season with "Gesture," a special reading of the poems written and inspired from The Sexuatlity Show. Poet, Michael Czarnecki led two workshops during The Sexuality Show and this special Poets in Play will be the first time those original works will be read in public! "Gesture" is also the title of the accompanying chapbook for these new and exclusive poems, and will be for sale for the first time at this event!
We will also be holding our traditional inspired open mic session from 8-9pm so if you have something related to sexuality you'd like to read, this is the perfect opportunity. Your poetry does not have to be related to sexuality for you to read aloud. We invite everyone to read their work.
Since this is the first Poets in Play of the new season, we will be announcing the star-studded poetry line-up for the rest of the season!

Sep 25    Traditional Rawhide Container Workshop

There were seven types of rawhide containers utilized on the Plains. During this two-part workshop, traditional Lakota artist Steve Tamayo will lead participants in the creation of their very own rawhide container.  Participants will learn about the function and historical evolution of the containers through the impact of trade.  Symbology and color concept will also be discussed to add a decorative element to your container.

Sep 28    Defenders of the Water School at Standing Rock
During the movement of resistance against the Dakota Access Pipeline, the Defenders of the Water School was formed to serve as a home education resource for families residing at the camp. The school was run by volunteers and funded completely by donations. Workshops were often offered by elders, students, artists, and others who wanted to share their knowledge with the young water protectors.  Hear firsthand from traditional Lakota artist, Steve Tamayo, about his work at the school and experiences on the front lines at Standing Rock.
