Nov 17    Preparing for the New York State Paid Family Leave Act

Preparing for the New York State
Paid Family Leave Act

New York's Paid Family Leave Benefits Law is slated to become effective on January 1, 2018.  This law will provide a generous benefit to employees as well as operational challenges for employers in New York.

Where many employers have become adept at assessing and processing employee requests for leave and benefit entitlements under statutes such as the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and state disability laws, New York's Paid Family Leave Act will provide an additional layer of complexity to this already complicated subject of employee absences--from updating policies and preparing processes, to training managers and advising executives.

From this presentation, participants will learn:
1. A basic summary of the NYS Paid Family Leave law, and NYS guidance on its implementation
2. Considerations when creating and integrating a paid family leave policy
3. Best practices for preparing for and implementing paid family leave

About Our Presenter

Luke Wright attorney at Harter Secrest & Emery
Luke focuses his practice on helping employers solve problems relating to managing employees while navigating applicable labor and employment laws. He works closely with employers of all sizes and across industries to proactively avoid litigation by implementing best practices with respect to employment law compliance, including state and federal leave laws, wage and hour laws and discrimination and whistle-blower statutes. Where litigation cannot be avoided, Luke represents management in agency charges and employment-related federal and state litigation.

Luke regularly speaks to various professional, civic and employer groups regarding recent developments in employment law.
