Oct 6    Ribbon Cutting - Dolphin Entertainment Company

Celebrate the grand opening for Dolphin Entertainment Company

About Dolphin Entertainment Company:
A modeling agency, an independent record label, design and marketing services and two magazine publications all under one roof.

Dolphin Entertainment Company Inc. is a multi-divisional corporation that works in the entertainment industry under multiple categories. With different divisions in the modeling, music, marketing and advertising industries this unique business is truly going to bring a fresh outlook on entertainment to the Twin Tiers.

D.E.C is owned and operated by Robert White Jr.  Robert grew up and was raised in Corning, New York until his sophomore year at Corning Painted Post East High School, when he moved to Nashville, Tennessee and began an education program at the school of hard knocks in the music industry.  Robert was exposed to the Music Industry through iconic locations like the Blue Bird Café and The Broken Spoke, song writing venues that showcased amazing writers and artists nightly.  Most of the late 90’s and early 2000’s artists that dominated the country music charts were regular guests at these locations and were great mentors for then eager 16 year old young man trying to get into the music industry.

Not only did Robert perform and show case his ability at these locations but many others throughout Nashville and the surrounding burrows.  His performances and writing brought attention from some of the now music industry elites, but then they were trying to break in to the industry, themselves.  Robert’s fondest memories of his time in Nashville were meeting the President of ASCAP, performing weekly at the Broken Spoke and getting guitar lessons from a few of the major artists from the 90’s and early 2000’s in a tuning room at the venues.  “When I tell people that I had a beer with Hank Williams Jr at Tootsie’s, learned a guitar riff from Michael Peterson, played basketball in Daryl Singletary’s backyard, and was in the studio with Bryan White and Scotty Emerick, it’s shocking to even me to know I had these experiences and many more.  These artists were idols to me and now are great contacts that are helping me grow.”

When Robert returned to New York, he brought with him great memories, stories and some amazing contacts and friends that are still going strong and have become the movers and shakers in the music industry.  “In an industry where it’s all about who you know, it truly helps to have those 20+ year friendships with those that are on the scene now and made big marks in the industry.”

Dolphin Entertainment Company Inc. was originally created to be a DJ service company with a twist of having promotional models be a part of the events.  That direction quickly changed when Robert, a well-known DJ in the Twin Tiers himself saw the potential the modeling industry brought to him through exposure and revenue.

Through a few changes and some hard lessons Robert now owns FIN Models.  This brand is growing quickly and features a few major models that are reaching well over 8 Million fans on social media and getting phone calls daily for castings.

FIN Music Group is the independent record label that is under the D.E.C brand and currently is the newest adventure with only three artists signed and listed for booking opportunities.

Belle Femme and Splash Magazines are the publications under the brand and are growing quickly. Splash Magazine is currently reaches well over 50K people a month and is currently sold in the US and in the UK via Kindle.  The brand is also launching a mobile application in September that will be accessible through all the popular app markets.

Belle Femme is the youngest of D.E.C brands and with only a month in existence is now going to be on the list of many media sources that will cover the elite New York Fashion Week Runway Show this September in New York City.  “I am very excited to finally get close to these large designers. The idea that next month I’ll be at events with Vera Wang, Oscar De La Renta, Calvin Klein and hopefully Tommy Hilfer is very exciting to me and great for my brand.”

“I know my company is very unique to have in upstate New York but I feel like it’s exactly what the area needs.” In Rochester, New York a large budget film company is making high budget Hollywood films and now in Corning, New York we will have a modeling agency and a record label.  I could have taken my business to New York City and I do, but I wanted to give something unique to my community and my home town.  The Twin Tiers is a part of me and is where I was born and raised and this is the one thing that I can give back.  These business owners are my friends, my family lives here and I grew up here and know what the youth here is going through with the lack of entertainment.”

The meals will be prepared by the North Corning Fire Department and will include 1/2 chicken, salt potatoes, macaroni salad, baked beans and a drink. The cost is $10.00 per person. Happy Tails will also host the "Be Aware, Be Prepared: Disaster Preparedness Expo".  Local Emergency Services agencies have been invited to participate. The funds raised by the BBQ will go towards making the needed renovations to the bus to accommodate as many as 40 dogs in crates.

For further information, you may contact Happy Tails at (607)377-5757 or happytails1@stny.rr.com.

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated the gulf coast and left many people and pets without their homes. In 2012, Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast and destroyed many homes and businesses. Closer to home in 2011, Binghamton was flooded due to Tropical Storm Lee. Recently, there was a fire at a nearby boarding facility which housed numerous dogs and it left them without options to shelter the pets. A few pets’ lives were lost.
These horrible events left many people and their pets without their homes.
Happy Tails Day Care & Pet Resort has recently purchased a used school bus to be turned into the "F.E.R. (fire, emergency, rescue) Waggin' ".
"It is rare to find a school bus that has air conditioning," states Elaine Walker, owner of Happy Tails.  "This one recently became available through a broker.  We had been talking about this need for a couple of years.  It is a large part of the Emergency Plan for our facility and believe it will help meet the needs of local Fire Departments, shelters, boarding facilities, and Veterinarian offices."

The F.E.R Waggin' will be used to help pets in the area displaced due to floods, fires, and other emergency situations. It will also be used by Happy Tails, i.e. as a way to transport dogs to dog swim at the end of the summer.

To register, please complete your RSVP & answer the survey questions here

Child Care Aware® of Steuben and Schuyler, The Corning Area Chamber of Commerce and The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce cordially invite you to attend a Business Breakfast Forum.  The program will highlight the specific and important ways that high quality child care and early learning programs matter to employers, now and in the future.

Featured speaker Bill Millett is a business strategist with an extensive background in community and economic development.  With enthusiasm and humor, Mr. Millett will share with you his insights, using local data to demonstrate how the regional child care and early learning landscape affects you and your employees.
Local child care leaders and area legislators will be in attendance as well.

To register, please complete your RSVP & answer the survey questions here

About the speaker:

Bill Millett established Charlotte, NC-based Scope View Strategic Advantage in 1995 to deliver substantial and sustainable value to private, nonprofit and public firms through support in a broad range of economic, organizational and business development areas.  A core principle of his company is to work only for organizations whose purposes he respects, whose integrity is beyond question and whose leadership has no tolerance for complacency.

While most of Millett’s work has involved the highly complex and confidential areas of helping corporations with site location and taking market share from competitors, he has a particular interest in early education issues.  He has worked on strategic and advocacy initiatives on this subject with state and local organizations throughout the U.S.. In addition, there is a growing recognition by corporate clients that quality early education is very much a Human Resource issue affecting companies’ ability to find the talent necessary for long-term economic sustainability and competitiveness.

Millett's more than thirty years of professional experience includes serving as Executive Director of two Regional Councils of Governments in South Carolina; Senior Vice President in charge of Economic Development for both the Charlotte, NC and Greenville, SC Chambers of Commerce; and Principal for Business Development for a major architectural firm.  He has held various leadership positions with Community and Economic Development Associations at the state level. Oct 28    The Rockwell Museum Presents an Evening with Kal Penn: Art & Politics

The Rockwell Museum has announced a date change for the event featuring Arts & Politics speaker, Kal Penn. The event, which was previously scheduled for October 26, will now take place October 28.  Due to obligations with his popular TV show, Designated Survivor, Kal Penn had to regrettably postpone his talk due to a change in his work schedule.  He looks forward to joining everyone on October 28th.

The October 28 event will be held at the Corning-Painted Post High School.  Please note that this is a location change from the previously scheduled Corning Museum of Glass auditorium.

“As you might know, Kal is in the midst of filming his new hit TV series, Designated Survivor.  Due to obligations with his filming schedule, Kal had to regrettably adjust the date of his talk from October 26th to the new date of Friday, October 28th.  Though not ideal, we are pleased that Kal is committed to this event. Tickets are still available and the Corning-Painted Post High School auditorium can accommodate many more audience members,” said Brett Smith, Programs and Events Manager at The Rockwell Museum.

The lecture will start at 7:00 pm.  Advance purchase highly recommended (online at rockwellmuseum.org/events). Tickets will be sold at the door starting at 5:30 p.m. at the auditorium box office. Program will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. – please plan your time for parking and ticket-purchase accordingly.

Kal Penn is a rising star in Hollywood with a passion for the intersection of pop culture and politics; he even took a two-year sabbatical to work full time for the White House. Kal will speak on how working in diverse environments and with a wide array of individuals completely transformed his perspective on politics, media and public service. He recalls his work with the White House with wit and charisma, including a cultural delegation to Cuba with the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.

ABOUT KAL PENN

Kal Penn is known for his starring roles in House, 24, the Harold and Kumar franchise, and forthcoming ABC series Designated Survivor. Though there is a tradition of Hollywood stars campaigning for politicians, Penn may be the only one in recent memory to take a sabbatical from his career midstream to work full time in politics. From 2009 to 2011, he was an Associate Director at the White House Office of Public Engagement, where he primarily served as President Obama’s Liaison to Young Americans (focusing on, among other issues, outreach around “don’t ask, don’t tell,” increasing financial aid, and young veterans).

During his years at The Office of Public Engagement, Penn also served as the president’s liaison to Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, engaging them in a variety of initiatives.

Penn recently hosted The Big Picture with Kal Penn, a National Geographic TV series currently on Netflix that uses data and mapping to make powerful connections and visualize our world in amazing new ways. Each episode uncovers surprising facts on a topic (like money, sex, food, crime, migrations or sports), revealing how our world works, how we got here, and even where we’re headed—while exploring powerful stories from the real people and communities behind the data.

Penn has appeared on the popular sitcom How I Met Your Mother, and has hosted The Big Brain Theory, a competition to find the nation’s brightest engineer, on the Discovery Channel. On the big screen, Penn has starred in various independent films and blockbusters, including three Harold and Kumar movies, Superman Returns, andBhopal: A Prayer for Rain (alongside Martin Sheen and Mischa Barton). The New York Times called his lead role in Mira Nair’s The Namesake a, “crackling, star-making performance.” Penn has also taught courses at the University of Pennsylvania, and University of California, Los Angeles.
