LOCAL CEOs TO SHARE TIPS WITH TEEN CEOs
Young Entrepreneurs Learn From Those at the Top
Students from the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) will be introduced to area CEOs at the upcoming YEA CEO Roundtable scheduled for Thursday, February 26th from 5:30pm - 7:00pm at the Radisson Hotel Corning. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
All of the local CEOs volunteering their one-on-one time with the students will discuss their roles, companies, backgrounds, and offer helpful business and networking advice to the next generation of CEOs. The CEO roundtable will feature:
Lynn Dates, Executive Director, 171 Cedar Arts Performing Arts Center
Jeffrey Eaton, President, Arbor Housing & Development
Dr. Edward J. Lukomski, President & CEO, Pathways, Inc.
Courtney Leonberger, Owner, Posh Boutique
Travis Barnes, Owner/Coach, Journey Fitness
As part of the YEA! program, students are introduced to all facets of the business world including, but not limited to, advertising, insurance agents, graphic designers, and web developers.
Over the course of this year's YEA! Program, 8 students will launch 8 businesses that include "Mind Your Beeswax," locally produced lip balm featuring natural regional products, and "Dork Tape," unique wallets and accessories made with colorful duct tape.
YEA! relies on the generosity of the community and of sponsors; people who identify with entrepreneurship and want to help pave the way for the future business leaders of tomorrow.
"YEA! strengthens the community, and the community strengthens YEA!," said Denise Ackley, President of the Corning Area Chamber of Commerce and the Corning YEA Program Manager. "We seek out people in every facet of the business community in order to help facilitate making our students' dreams a reality."
During the course of the nine-month program, more than 25 local businesses become involved with YEA! at various levels. Students work in close cooperation with local business leaders, community leaders, and educators who use their personal experiences to demonstrate how to transform their ideas into tangible enterprises that create economic and social value for a better world.
The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!)
The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is a groundbreaking and exciting year-long class that transforms middle and high school students into real, confident entrepreneurs. Throughout the class, students develop business ideas, write business plans, conduct market research, pitch their plans to a panel of investors, and actually launch and run their own real, legal, fully formed companies and social movements. Founded in 2004 at the University of Rochester with support from the Kauffman Foundation, the Young Entrepreneurs Academy today serves thousands of students in communities across America.
