Unravel the Mystery of Charted Patterns!

Ever opened a gorgeous pattern, seen a grid full of mysterious symbols, and immediately closed the book? You’re not alone! While knitting charts can feel like a secret code, learning to read them is actually the ultimate key to unlocking complex lace, colorwork, cable motifs, and textured stitch patterns with ease.

Join expert instructor Deb Burger for a hands-on, empowering workshop designed to demystify grid patterns once and for all. You’ll learn how to visual-map your stitches, track your progress without getting lost, and translate those grid symbols into smooth, confident stitches.  The class will cover reading frontside and backside row charts for knit/pur (Gansey) textures, cables and lace.

What You'll Learn

  • The Logic of the Grid: Why charts are read right-to-left, bottom-to-top, and how to navigate flat vs. in-the-round patterns.

  • Symbol Decoding: Key standard chart symbols, legend translations, and how to read your work to spot errors before they happen.

  • Pro Tips & Setup: How to use chart keepers, highlighters, and row counters to keep your place seamlessly.

  • Hands-on Practice: Work through guided swatch exercises directly in class with real-time feedback from Deb.

Class Materials & Prep

  • Yarn: 50 yds or worsted weight yarn (wool is preferable, but not required)

  • Needles: US #8

  • Notions: 2 ring-style stitch markers

  • Homework: Cast on 30 sts and knit 6 rows of Garter Stitch (knit every row).
