The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes (The ARTS Council) invites you to “Poets in Play,” featuring Lafayette Wattles on Tuesday, November 14 from 7-9pm.
Join us for the in-person at the Kaleidoscope Society at 44 Bridge St. in Corning. The ARTS Council will provide light refreshments and coffee. A live stream of this event through Zoom will be available. *Please see Zoom information below.
An open mic session will follow Lafayette's reading. Poets are encouraged to read one poem based on Lafayette's prompt or something of their own selection.
Prompt: "Once we were old enough, they’d pack the car each summer and call us vagabonds, which, for the longest time, we thought was bag-of-ponds, and we loved it because we saw ourselves as something splashable and fun . . .”
About Lafayette Wattles:
Some people are born writers. Lafayette Wattles was not one of those people. After he finally came around and discovered the wonders of the word, he decided to become a writer in the hopes of sharing those wonders with others. Lafayette Wattles was the name of his great-great-grandfather, a full-blooded Sioux. When he decided to become a writer, he wanted to honor that part of his past as a way to celebrate this new adventure, so he adopted the name for his writer self. Lafayette recently published his chapbook "Hurricane," (Foothills Publishing, 2022) about his experience during the Hurricane Agnes Flood of 1972 in Elmira and Corning. He has published over 140 poems in print and online journals including "Boxcar Poetry Review," "The Louisville Review," "Hunger Mountain," and "Cicada."
