Metku Quartet
Finnish-American Dance Music of the Finger Lakes
Thursday, August 8, from 6-8pm
Centerway Square, Corning, NY
Join The ARTS Council of The Southern Finger Lakes for a special evening of traditional Finnish-American dance music brought to you by Metku Quartet on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 6-8pm at Centerway Square in Corning, NY. This concert celebrates the completion of the tune book, Finnish Dance Tunes of the Finger Lakes, which represents 6 years of work highlighting and preserving local Finnish musical traditions.
Inspired by their Finnish ancestral heritage, Michael Ludgate (mandolin, kantele, banjo) and Katrina Mackey (fiddle, flute) formed Metku to learn more about traditional Finnish music and dance. They are often joined by Philip Robinson on guitar and master accordionist, Richard Koski, who has played Finnish-American folk music since 1970.
This show is free and open to the public.
