Beyond the Frame: Revisiting the Ekphrastic
For centuries, poets have mined the visual arts of inspiration, significance, and insight into their craft. This type of poetry is called ekphrastic poetry, but it is a wide and diverse field in which poets are constantly reconsidering the relationships between the reader, writer, and object of art.  In this generative poetry workshop, we will  discuss examples ekphrastic poetry to discover models for our own writing, sharpen our descriptive skills, and play with different ways a piece of visual art can be a point of departure for creative writing. After visiting the 2025 Holiday Member Show at the Evelyn Peeler Peacock Gallery, we will have ample time to put our ideas into practice and experiment with new revision techniques.

This event is free and open to the public.
